In Episode 36 of #AmritGanga Season 2, Amma says that we make New Year’s resolutions but more often than not, we cannot keep them because of our old habits and tendencies. We’re not ready to drop them, but change is not possible until and unless we drop them. However painful or difficult it may be, we must drop old habits. We should make a firm resolve to move forward. We bathe every day to keep the body clean. Similarly, enthusiasm is like a bath for the mind. It’s not enough to have zeal and enthusiasm only on days like New Year’s. We should maintain it every single day of the year.

अमृत गँगा, सीज़न २ की छत्तीसवीं कड़ी में, अम्मा कह रही हैं कि हम नए वर्ष के आरम्भ होते संकल्प तो अक्सर लेते हैं लेकिन अपनी पुरानी आदतों और वासनाओं के कारण उन्हें पूरा नहीं कर पाते। हम उन आदतों को छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं किन्तु जब तक उन्हें छोड़ते नहीं, परिवर्तन असम्भव है! कितना भी कठिन लगे, पर पुरानी आदतों को छोड़ना तो पड़ेगा ही। हमें आगे बढ़ने का दृढ संकल्प लेना चाहिए। जैसे हम शरीर की शुद्धि के लिए रोज़ स्नान करते हैं, वैसे ही मन के लिए उत्साह स्नान जैसा है। केवल नए वर्ष के दिन ही नहीं बल्कि पूरे वर्ष में प्रतिदिन इस उत्साह-उमंग को बनाये रखना चाहिए।

In Episode 34 of #AmritGanga Season 2, Amma says that God is not someone who punishes one and forgives the other. At the same time it does not mean that we should live however we wish! “It is my life, I will live as I wish!” This attitude is the root cause of all calamities. This attitude does not bring peace and happiness to us or to society. Likes and dislikes come as a package. Living according to our ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’ can result in mishaps. We like milk but when it goes sour, we dislike it and throw it away. But we can’t escape from the court of our own conscience.

In Episode 27 of #AmritGanga Season 2, Amma says that the prevalent attitude today is: “I must get what I want! Why should I worry about others?” Likewise in family life, the husband begs love from the wife, and vice-versa. Each one wants to receive love. Clashes are bound to happen. But if they are both aware, they will forgive each other’s mistakes. It’s necessary to express their emotions so they can understand each other. Their feelings must be expressed.

अमृत गँगा सीज़न २ की सत्ताईसवीं कड़ी में अम्मा कहती हैं कि आजकल लोगों का भाव है कि, “मुझे जो चाहिए, वो चाहिए ही। मुझे दूसरों से क्या लेना-देना?” इसी तरह गृहस्थ जीवन में भी पति पत्नी से प्रेम की याचना करता है और पत्नी पति से। सब प्रेम पाना चाहते हैं। तो टकराव तो होगा ही। लेकिन यदि दोनों सावधान रहें तो एक-दूसरे की ग़लतियाँ माफ़ कर देंगे। एक-दूसरे को समझने के लिए भावनाओं को अभिव्यक्त करना आवश्यक है।

In Episode 6 of #AmritGanga Season 2, Amma says that when we get a cut, we may cry out of pain. But crying won’t heal the wound; we need to apply medicine. Some people don’t put in any effort. They don’t perform the appropriate actions. But we can only overcome our problems with self-effort, so we should try to do what we can. We should not feel sad thinking about our duties. We only have the present moment. When we act in the present moment, we develop self-confidence to move forward.

अमृत गँगा सीज़न २ की छठी कड़ी में, अम्मा कहती हैं कि कहीं चोट लगने पर, संभवतः हम दर्द से रो पड़ें। लेकिन रोने-चिल्लाने से घाव तो भरने वाला नहीं; दवा लगानी होगी। कई लोग बिलकुल प्रयत्न नहीं करते। उपयुक्त कर्म नहीं करते। किन्तु, हम समस्याओं का समाधान प्रयत्न द्वारा ही कर सकते हैं, अतः हमें यथायोग्य प्रयत्न करना चाहिए। अपने कर्त्तव्य-कर्मों के बारे में सोच-सोच कर उदास न हों। हमारे हाथ में है – बस वर्तमान क्षण! वर्तमान क्षण में कर्म करने से, हम में आगे बढ़ने योग्य आत्मविश्वास पैदा होता है।

Only then will we be saved from the “well” dug by others’ criticism and be successful in life. Whenever people criticize us, we need to remind ourselves, “I am not this body and mind. I am the Atman.
When everything is the True Self, who can criticize whom?”
Even in our ashram, we have been able to change so many things when people voiced their criticism. We should be able to convert our weaknesses into steps that can lead us forward. No one knows how much time we have remaining in this human birth. Death is just a step behind each one of us.
This precious birth should not be squandered away in short-lived pleasures.
Before us is a golden opportunity to achieve the true goal of human birth.
We should make proper use of this birth to deeply inquire into our true essence and understand the real source of peace and happiness.

In Episode 12 of #Amrit Ganga, Amma tells us that love makes everything new, fresh, and novel. Amma speaks the universal language of love. She says that the light of love and compassion for others fills our lives with freshness, strength, and enthusiasm. Even after long hours of darshan Amma always wears a sweet smile without a trace of fatigue! She is a living example of “service born out of love and compassion” that the mystic poet Kabir wrote about… She validates the quote: “where there is love, there is no fatigue!”

This human birth is meant to attain Self Realization. Once we attain this, we can always come back and do good for the world. Just as we carefully count money and make sure nothing is missing, we should introspect each day, “How much have I chanted my mantra and meditated? How much time did I set aside for God? How much time did I spend for the sake of others? Was I able to compromise and be patient with another? Was I able to forget and forgive?” We should introspect like this every day.

Just by reaching a Master or living near the master doesn’t necessarily mean anything. it doesn’t mean much just to reach the Master. After that is when we need to start making real effort. So, do not waste the presence of the Sadguru. We need to store all memories we have with the Master.
